Container-terminal
One of the world's largest, busiest and most efficient container terminals, Port of Salalah, facilitates the Sultanates of Oman's trade with the world. This is accomplished through its globally recognized efficient operations with a professional workforce, continuous improvement mindset, modern equipment and world-class infrastructure.
The Container Terminal consists of 6 berths with a quay length of 2197m, a draft of up to 18m, and a capacity of 6 million TEU per annum, supported by a modern infrastructure capable of accommodating the world's largest container ships.
To leverage its strategic location and strong infrastructure, the Port of Salalah invested $300 million to upgrade the container terminal. This capital injection involves upgrading all six existing berths and expanding the yard, boosting the terminal's capacity from 4.5 million to 6 million TEUs. This expansion solidifies the Port of Salalah as a pivotal hub with prime access to the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, and East Africa. The upgrades, coupled with the implementation of Lean practices, aim to enhance efficiency and offer industry-leading port stay times.
The Port of Salalah is a core part of the Gemini network, functioning as a primary hub within the infrastructure. By integrating into the network, the port plays a vital role in facilitating global trade and connectivity. The planned enhancements align with the evolving needs of the Gemini collaboration, maintaining its leading position in global shipping operations.
For three consecutive years, from 2021 to 2023, the Port of Salalah was ranked the second most efficient port in the world among 351 ports globally, according to The World Bank's Container Port Performance Index. Its strategic location and world-class operations continue to provide increased services to Oman's exporters.
Port of Salalah's key customers include the world’s leading shipping lines, such as Maersk, MSC, CMA and others. Looking ahead, our aim is to offer our customers an integrated supply chain solution, offering multi-modal transport solutions covering Sea, Land and Air options.
