Port of Salalah has recently welcomed its namesake the APL Salalah, one of the largest container ships in the world, in an exclusive ceremony attended by H.E. Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan Al Busaid, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, along with senior government and commercial representatives, and a number of the port's management group.

The ceremony was held in recognition of the 10 years of partnership between APL and the Port of Salalah, and the esteem which has been accorded to Salalah and the Sultanate of Oman, in naming one of the largest container vessels in the world after the city. APL is among the most internationally recognized companies in global container transportation with over 160 years of operations in global shipping.

During a guided tour of the APL Salalah, H.E. Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan bin Hamoud Al Busaid said, "Long-standing business partnerships such as this demonstrated today between APL and Salalah provides for the mechanism needed to diversify and advance the country's economic development. Throughout history and until today the world's commodities are most often transported by sea, and Salalah's mega-port has supported in positioning Oman on the global stage by providing a progressive hub for manufacturing and distribution."

The recently launched APL Salalah is capable of carrying 10,700 TEU (twenty foot equivalent units). At 347 meters long, APL Salalah is three and a half times the length of a football pitch.

The APL Salalah connects China and Europe, and calls the Port of Salalah both east-and west-bound on a regular basis. APL utilizes Salalah to offer their customers the shortest direct route from the region to connect business to the major Europe-Asia trade lane and with the major markets of the world.

"Over the past 10 years, APL has witnessed tremendous progress in the Port of Salalah as it developed into a world-class transshipment hub in the West Central Asia region," said Jason Wong, APL Regional President for South Asia. "In naming our container ship APL Salalah, we are proud to be associated with this port-city and we look forward to many more years of fruitful collaboration with our business partners here."

Senior representatives from the Chambers of Commerce in Muscat and in Salalah and major businesses utilizing the Port of Salalah were among dignitaries in attendance at the ceremony. In an address to the crowd, Ahmed Akaak, Deputy CEO at the Port of Salalah, said, "We have tied together the best of what Oman has to offer, serving world markets from a strategic hub. Solid infrastructure and connectivity, combined with our value-driven operations has enabled the company to grow over 600% since its operations began 15 years ago."

Port of Salalah is among the top transshipment ports globally and receives an average of 5-6 container vessels daily, and handles an average of over 10,000 containers and 20,000 metric tons of bulk cargo a day, translating annually into over 3.6 million TEU and 7.2 million tons of bulk cargo.

ميناء صلالة يحتفل بإستقبال السفينة (أي. بي. أل صلالة) وبمرور 10 سنوات من العلاقات التجارية مع شركة أي بي أل

بحضور معالي السيد محمد بن سلطان بن حمود البوسعيدي الموقر، وزير الدولة ومحافظ ظفار وعدد من مسؤولي الدولة والقطاع التجاري إضافة الى مدراء دوائر الميناء إستقبل ميناء صلالة بإحتفال مهيب السفينة التي تحمل بكل إعتزاز إسم (أي بي أل صلالة)، والتي تعد واحدة من أكبر سفن الحاويات بالعالم .

أقيم الإحتفال بمناسبة مرور 10 سنوات على الشراكة بين ميناء صلالة وشركة (أي بي أل)، وتقديراً لهم لإطلاق إسم صلالة على واحدة من أكبر سفن الحاويات في العالم. وتعد شركة أي بي أل من بين أشهر شركات نقل الحاويات العالميةويعود تأريخها في صناعة الشحن البحري لأكثر من 160 سنة.

وبهذه المناسبة قال معالي السيد محمد بن سلطان بن حمود البوسعيدي الموقر أثناء جولته في السفينة، " أن الشراكة الوطيدة بين شركة أي بي أل وميناء صلالة تساهم في دفع الآلية المطلوبة لتنويع الإقتصاد الوطني الى الأمام، وكما هو معلوم عبر التاريخ وحتى يومنا هذا فإن الشحن البحري هو الوسيلة الرئيسية لنقل البضائع حول العالم، وقد ساهم ميناء صلالة بموقعه الإستراتيجي المميز من وضع موانئ السلطنة بمصاف موانئ العالم بإعتباره مركزاً للتصنيع والتوزيع "

يبلغ طول السفينة (أي. بي. أل. صلالة APL Salalah )، 347 متراًوتبلغ طاقتها 10,700 حاوية نمطية. وهذا الطول يعادل 3 مرات ونصف طول ملعب كرة قدم. ومن الجدير بالذكر أنها تعد أكبر سفن أسطول الشركة في الوقت الراهن.

سوف تعمل سفينة (أي. بي. أل. صلالة) على المحور الذي يربط الصين بأوروبا، وسوف تزور صلالة آياباً وذهاباً، حيث تستغل هذه الشركة صلالة لتقديم اقصر المسارات المباشرة حيث أنها (صلالة) تعد عصباً مركزياً يقع على خطوط الشحن البحري الرئيسة بين آسيا وأوروبا، وأسواق العالم الكبرى.

"لقد شهدت شركة أي بي أل حصول تطورٍ ملموس بميناء صلالة خلال السنوات العشر المنصرمة"، هذا ما صرح به الفاضل جيسون وونغ، رئيس أي. بي. أل. الإقليمي لجنوب آسيا ، والذي أضاف قائلاً، "وقد تطور الميناء وأصبح مركزاً لإعادة الشحن من الطراز العالمي في وسط آسيا وغربها. ونحن فخورون بإطلاق تسمية (أي بي ال صلالة) على واحدة من سفن الشركة لأن ذلك يجعلنا مترابطين ومتوافقين ونتطلع الى تعاون مثمر مع شركائنا في السنوات القادمة."

شارك في هذا الإحتفال كبار الشخصيات من غرفة تجارة وصناعة عمان في مسقط وصلالة وعدد من ممثلي الشركات الكبرى التي تستثمر ميناء صلالة لأعمالها التجارية والصناعية، وفي كلمته التي ألقاها على الحضور، قال الفاضل أحمد بن علي عكعاك، نائب الرئيس التنفيذي للشركة، "لقد سخرنا أفضل ما يمكن أن تقدمه السلطنة في سبيل خدمة الأسواق العالمية من مركز صلالة الإستراتيجي. لقد مكنتنا البنى التحتية المتينة، وقابلية الميناء كعصب مفصلي في حركة الخطوط الملاحية سوية مع الإعتبارات المادية والمعنوية للعمليات من تنمية العمل بنسبة 600% منذ إنطلاق العمليات قبل حوالي 15 عاما."

من الجدير بالذكر أن ميناء صلالة يعد من بين أفضل موانئ إعادة الشحن في العالم، إذ أنه يستقبل 5 – 6 سفن حاويات يومياً، ويناول 10 الآف حاوية نمطية و20 ألف طن من البضائع العامة باليوم الواحد، وهذه الأرقام تترجم الى 3,6 مليون حاوية نمطية و 7,2 مليون طن من البضائع السائبة سنوياً.
