A New Record at Port of Salalah 2015-10-11

Salalah: A new record achieved at Port of Salalah for the second time in 2015 at the general cargo terminal by handling 1,211,569 metric tons in September 2015. This new record breaks the previous one of 1,187,561 that was set in June 2015.

Port of Salalah CEO David Gledhill said about this, “The achievement is not easy to accomplish in this industry and requires a great deal of collaboration, planning, and modern management that makes necessary machinery available for such an accomplishment. GCT General Manager Ahmed Qatan stated, “Breaking records twice in 2015 is an indication of a proper planning and effort towards providing a high quality services in the port. He also expressed his gratitude to everybody in achieving this.

The GCT handled over 10 million metric tons of cargo in 2014 and is expected to handle over 12 million in 2015.

The port is one of the most important ports in the region due to the strategic location that connects west to East, which saves time and cost. It also provides valuable facilities to container and general cargo ships. The port has connections with 54 ports worldwide as well as ships that transship containers to markets in Southeast Africa, India and GCC states.
