Port of Salalah is taking part of Global “Go Green” Campaign 2015-09-16
Salalah: Port of Salalah is taking part in the Global Ports Group initiative “Go Green” from 14th – 17th September 2015. Global marine terminal operators DP World, Hutchison Port Holdings Limited (HPH), APM Terminals, PSA International and Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) – five of the world’s largest port operators, and joined by the Port of Rotterdam Authority (PRA), have launched the first ever joint industry initiative of this magnitude to promote environmental awareness and make a sustainable difference in the communities in which they operate.
The concept of “Go Green” is to address three main areas - Reuse and Recycle, Climate Change and Community.
A number of activities will be taking place during the week including Beach Cleaning, Tree planting in association with Ministry of Environment, Salalah Municipality, Raysuit School, and Environment Society of Oman as well as other activities inside the port. David Gledhill, Port of Salalah CEO said, “Port of Salalah is participating in this week “Go Green” campaign to address the critical issues facing the environment and to work together with our community around us to raise the level of environmental awareness”.
Go Green is a simple process to achieve environmental improvements, which engage a wide audience across the globe and local areas.
David Wilson GM HSSE who is coordinating Go Green on behalf of Port of Salalah commented on the beach cleanup:
“The Beach Clean event is an ideal opportunity for the local community and authorities to come together to show their commitment to improving the environment. Beach clean is something that benefits not only visitors and locals but also marine life. This important event shows respect for the beautiful coastline, important waters and surrounding areas that we enjoy.
Everyone can play a part by using the bins provided, taking their rubbish home, and helping to remove waste left by others. Well done to the school and all those involved”.
